Yeovil College, which was updating its Twitter feed throughout the evening, was delighted to announce Old Mill as the winners, tweeting: “Winners! A massive congratulations to @YeovilCollege’s Apprentice employer @OldMillAFP – Large Employer of the Year #GSTApprenticeships #WhereLearningComesToLife #NAW2018”
Currently a quarter of Old Mill’s people are trainees, many of whom are onto their second or third professional qualification, all supported and funded by Old Mill. Ian Carlson, managing director at Old Mill says the award is testament to Old Mill’s dedication to its trainees:
“We have always believed that having great people is the key to long-term success, and our trainees are an important part of this. Taking the drive and ambition that our trainees have, and then combining it with first-class training and support, creates an extremely potent proposition. This helps give our people the careers they want, while also ensuring that we are building an outstanding talent pipeline for the business.”
“Being named best large employer by the Somerset Apprenticeship Awards is recognition of the large number of extremely talented trainees we have within Old Mill, as well as of the high-quality training we provide, while Lloyd’s own personal achievement shows that if you have the drive, we will give you the tools you need to succeed.”
Lloyd said he is really proud to be part of an award-winning trainee programme and honoured to have made it to the finals himself. He said:
“I am really pleased and proud that all my hard work has been recognised and that Old Mill has won this award for its trainee programme. I have received so much support and guidance throughout my time at Old Mill, which has helped me gain real, practical work experience and become an essential part of the team.”
