The Royal Bath and West Show – Wednesday 30 – Saturday 2 June 2018

14 June 2018

We were delighted to attend the Royal Bath and West Show 2018 with some extra special highlights from this year’s show, including special guest, professional chef and celebrity Lesley Waters, a visit from Lofty Therapy Horses, and the launch of the RABI’s South West Women in Agriculture network.

One of the biggest shows in the South West, the Royal Bath and West Show is a celebration of Great British Agriculture, Food & Drink and Entertainment. Nestled within the heart of the West Country, the event is a showcase to the talents and achievements of businesses within the region, with an array of stalls from crafts, floristry, machinery, confectionary and much more, this is a fantastic day out for all the family.

This year, Old Mill were once again proud sponsors of the show and we had our own marquee comfortably situated along 5th Avenue, with a superb view of the main ring and all of its accompanying entertainment.

Our specialist staff were at the show from the Wednesday through to the Saturday, providing hospitality throughout the day with catering, locally sourced food and drink and even a small ride on John Deere tractor to keep the young ones entertained.

Our head of Food and Drink, Jolyon Stonehouse, spent the Wednesday meeting all of the local Food and Drink businesses in the outside area to decide on the Best in Show. Well done to Beats Ales who came first with their original and quirky ales, created to represent different music genres. They also demonstrated a genuine passion for their product, which was high quality and well presented to meet their target market. Also congratulations to Country Bumpkins Catering who came second, and Hullabaloos Lemonade who came third.

Third place goes to Hullabaloos with bronze certificate for Best in Show.

We had a celebrity special on Thursday evening as we hosted an evening cookery demonstration with professional chef and cookery teacher, Lesley Waters. It’s no surprise we were inundated with responses to attend the evening as nearly 100 people joined us for an evening indulging in some delicious canapés, complimentary drinks and great company. On the Wednesday evening of the show, we were delighted to support the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution’s (RABI) South West Women in Agriculture launch, with special guests from key female speakers in the rural industry. The event successfully promoted the South West Women in Ag network and provided an excellent hub for women to network and build their business contacts.

Returning on the Friday for some more intimate cooking demonstrations, Lesley and her team seamlessly hosted a brunch and afternoon tea for some of our clients which went down a storm.

On the Friday we were proud to support the rural community once more as Showmanship Beef Sponsor and Interbreed Pig Championship Sponsor.

The weather held out as well! Despite the odd (and occasional torrential) shower, the sun did shine upon the show and the thunder storms were kept at bay. Making for a slightly calmer atmosphere throughout the week, the Saturday brought its famous hustle and bustle of busying families and their dogs as they explored the showground. Catching the eyes of passers-by were Lofty and Star, two miniature American horses who were happily grazing and greeting guests at the front of the Old Mill marquee throughout the Saturday. The pair are just two members of Lofty Therapy Horses, a charity which has been nominated by the Old Mill Yeovil office and run by April and Steve Kibby – you can find out more about the charity and the amazing work they do by visiting their Facebook page… https://www.facebook.com/LoftyTherapyHorses/

If you were at the show this year and popped in to see us, we hope you enjoyed your time on our stand and made the most of what the show had to offer!
